Detailed itinerary For 3 Days Bwindi Mgahinga Trek
Day 1: Transfer to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park
Begin your adventure with breakfast at your hotel in Kigali before setting off on a scenic drive through Kigali city and onwards to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park in southwestern Uganda. The journey takes about 3–5 hours, crossing either the Gatuna or Cyanika border into Uganda. On arrival, check in at your lodge nestled in the foothills of the Virunga Volcanoes. Relax, enjoy the cool mountain breeze, and prepare for your first gorilla trekking experience the next day.
Day 2: Gorilla Trekking in Mgahinga National Park – Transfer to Bwindi
After an early breakfast, assemble at the park headquarters for a detailed briefing from expert rangers before embarking on your first gorilla trek in Mgahinga National Park. The highlight here is usually the famous Nyakagezi gorilla family,
known for their playful and adventurous nature. The trek may last from 30 minutes to several hours depending on the gorillas’ location. Once you encounter them, you’ll spend a magical hour observing their interactions, taking photographs, and marveling at their human-like behavior.
After the trek, return to your lodge for lunch and refreshment before driving to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park (about 2–3 hours). Arrive in the evening and check in at your lodge, surrounded by the lush rainforest.
Day 3: Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest & Departure
This day is dedicated to your second gorilla trekking adventure – this time in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, home to nearly half of the world’s mountain gorillas. After breakfast, report to the park headquarters for a briefing, then set off into the dense rainforest with your guides. Trekking through Bwindi’s rugged terrain is an experience in itself, but the true reward comes when you finally encounter a gorilla family. Spend an unforgettable hour with them, capturing memories and connecting with these gentle giants.
After your trek, return to the lodge for lunch before embarking on your return journey to Kigali for your flight connections.
