As you approach the border, you’ll cross into Uganda via the Cyanika or Katuna border posts. The border crossing is smooth, and you’ll quickly transition into Uganda’s striking landscapes of dense rainforests and dramatic hills.

If you’re starting from Kampala, the journey is slightly longer, taking approximately 8-9 hours. En route, you’ll have the chance to stop at the Uganda Equator for photos, and enjoy a leisurely lunch in Mbarara. Day 2: Gorilla Trekking Adventure in Bwindi

Today is the day you’ve been waiting for — your gorilla trek! After an early breakfast, you’ll head to the Bwindi Impenetrable National Park headquarters for a briefing on what to expect during the trek. The park ranger will explain important safety protocols, appropriate behavior around gorillas, and the trekking process itself. You will also be allocated to a specific gorilla family to visit, based on your physical ability and preference.

The trek through the dense forest can last anywhere from 2 to 6 hours, depending on where the gorillas are located on the day of your trek. Be prepared for a moderately strenuous hike, as the terrain can be steep and muddy. However, your knowledgeable guide will be with you every step of the way, ensuring your safety while pointing out the fascinating flora and fauna of the forest. As you move through the jungle, the anticipation builds, and when you finally encounter the gorilla family, all the effort is worth it.
