Detailed Itinerary of 6 Day Gorillas & Masai Mara

Day 1: Arrival in Kigali – Transfer to Bwindi, Uganda

Arrive at Kigali International Airport (KGL) and meet your driver-guide. Begin a scenic overland journey to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park in Uganda (approximately 4-5 hours, depending on your sector). Along the way, admire rolling hills, tea plantations, and spectacular viewpoints over the Virunga Volcanoes. Optional stops include Lake Mutanda, Lake Bunyonyi, or local markets for a taste of Rwandan culture. Arrive in Bwindi by late afternoon, check in to your lodge, enjoy dinner, and prepare for the first gorilla trek the next morning.

Day 2: Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi

After an early breakfast, head to the park headquarters for registration and a briefing. Trek through dense rainforest with experienced rangers to your assigned habituated gorilla family. Treks can last 2–6 hours depending on the gorillas’ location. Spend one magical hour observing these majestic creatures at a safe distance, witnessing silverbacks protect their family, mothers grooming infants, and playful juveniles exploring the forest. After the trek, return to your lodge for lunch and relaxation. Optional afternoon activities include visiting the Batwa community, village walks, or birdwatching.

Day 3: Bwindi → Kigali → Flight to Nairobi

After breakfast, drive back to Kigali, enjoying scenic countryside views along the way. Upon arrival, catch your flight to Nairobi, Kenya (approximately 1.5 hours). Transfer to your Nairobi hotel and spend a relaxed evening preparing for the Maasai Mara safari.

Day 4: Nairobi → Maasai Mara National Reserve

Depart Nairobi after breakfast for the world-famous Maasai Mara. Travel by road through the scenic Rift Valley (5–6 hours) or by a short flight (1 hour). Upon arrival, check in at your lodge or tented camp, enjoy lunch, and head out on your first afternoon game drive. Witness elephants, zebras, giraffes, and predators such as lions and cheetahs, as the African sunset paints the plains golden.

Day 5: Full-Day Safari in Maasai Mara

Spend the day exploring the Maasai Mara’s diverse habitats. Begin with an early morning game drive when predators are most active. From July to October, witness the spectacular Great Migration as wildebeests and zebras cross the Mara River. Optional experiences include a hot air balloon safari, guided nature walks, or a visit to a Maasai village. Return to your lodge for dinner and evening storytelling around the campfire.

Day 6: Morning Game Drive – Return to Nairobi – Departure

Start with a final sunrise game drive for one last chance to see wildlife in the Mara. After breakfast, transfer back to Nairobi by road or flight. Depending on your schedule, visit the Giraffe Centre, the David Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage, or enjoy local shopping before being transferred to the airport for your onward flight.
