Day 1: Arrival in Kigali & Transfer to Volcanoes National Park

Upon arrival at Kigali International Airport, you will be warmly welcomed by your professional safari guide. After a brief introduction and tour briefing, begin your scenic drive from Kigali to Volcanoes National Park, located in Rwanda’s northern region.

Before leaving the city, enjoy a short Kigali city tour (time permitting). You may visit the Kigali Genocide Memorial, local craft markets, or simply enjoy Kigali’s clean, vibrant streets. Your guide will share insights into Rwanda’s history, culture, and impressive transformation.

From Kigali, the journey continues through Rwanda’s rolling green hills, often called the “Land of a Thousand Hills.” Enjoy beautiful countryside views, tea plantations, terraced slopes, and rural communities as you approach the Virunga Volcanoes.

Arrive at your lodge near Volcanoes National Park, check in, and relax. The misty mountain views and cool highland air create the perfect atmosphere for the next day’s gorilla trekking adventure.

In the evening, enjoy a delicious dinner and prepare for your first gorilla trek in Rwanda.

Day 2: Gorilla Trekking in Volcanoes National Park – Rwanda

Start your day with an early breakfast at your lodge before heading to the Volcanoes National Park headquarters for the gorilla trekking briefing. Here, park rangers will explain trekking guidelines, safety procedures, and how to behave when near the mountain gorillas.

After the briefing, begin your gorilla trekking adventure. Guided by experienced trackers, follow forest trails through dense bamboo vegetation, moss-covered trees, and volcanic landscapes. The trek can take anywhere between 1–4 hours, depending on the location of the gorilla family.

Once you meet the gorillas, spend a magical hour observing these gentle giants. Watch them feed, groom each other, play, and interact in their natural habitat. This close wildlife encounter is one of the most emotional and unforgettable experiences in Africa.

After your time with the gorillas, trek back to the starting point and transfer to your lodge for lunch and relaxation. Spend the afternoon at leisure, enjoying the serene mountain environment or taking an optional community visit to learn about local culture.

In the evening, enjoy dinner and rest after a rewarding day in the Rwandan highlands.

Day 3: Transfer from Volcanoes National Park (Rwanda) to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest (Uganda)

After breakfast at your lodge, begin your scenic transfer from Volcanoes National Park in Rwanda to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest in Uganda. The journey takes you through breathtaking landscapes—rolling hills, terraced farms, and traditional villages—offering a perfect chance to enjoy the beauty of both countries.

Proceed to the Rwanda–Uganda border (Cyanika or Gatuna depending on route) for immigration formalities. Your guide will assist you through the process before continuing into Uganda, famously known as the “Pearl of Africa.” As you drive deeper into southwestern Uganda, the scenery becomes even more dramatic, with lush forests, banana plantations, and mist-covered hills.

Arrive in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, home to nearly half of the world’s mountain gorilla population. Check in at your lodge, nestled on the forest’s edge, and enjoy a hearty lunch.

Spend the afternoon relaxing at the lodge, taking in the tranquil forest sounds, or doing a short guided nature walk to spot birds and small primates. In the evening, enjoy dinner and prepare for your second gorilla trekking experience the next day.

Day 4: Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi & Batwa Cultural Experience – Uganda

Start the day with an early breakfast at your lodge, then head to the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest Headquarters for your gorilla trekking briefing. Park rangers will explain safety rules and proper conduct near the gorillas.

Trek through the dense rainforest, surrounded by towering trees, ferns, and wildlife sounds. The trek usually lasts 2–5 hours, depending on the gorilla family’s location. Spend one magical hour observing the gorillas, watching their playful interactions, social behaviors, and tender moments between mothers and infants.

After the trek, return to your lodge for lunch and some rest. In the afternoon, enjoy a short nature walk or birdwatching around the lodge, soaking in the serene forest environment.

In the evening, visit a local Batwa community, also known as the forest people. Learn about their traditional hunting methods, music, dance, and crafts, gaining insight into their unique culture and deep connection with the forest. This cultural experience offers a meaningful perspective on the region’s heritage.

Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay, reflecting on the incredible wildlife encounters and cultural experiences of the day.

Day 5: Transfer to Lake Bunyonyi & Leisure Activities – Uganda

After breakfast at your lodge in Bwindi, embark on a scenic drive to Lake Bunyonyi, often called the “Switzerland of Africa.” The journey takes you through rolling hills, terraced farmland, and rural villages, offering plenty of opportunities for photos and glimpses of local life.

Upon arrival at your lodge on the shores of Lake Bunyonyi, check in and relax. The afternoon is dedicated to exploring the lake by canoe or boat, visiting some of the 29 islands scattered across the lake, and enjoying the tranquil waters and stunning views. You may also spot a variety of bird species and local wildlife along the lake’s edge.

Alternatively, opt for short hikes along the hills surrounding the lake, capturing panoramic views and photographing the serene landscapes. This is a perfect opportunity to unwind, enjoy the calm environment, and connect with nature.

In the evening, return to the lodge for dinner. Enjoy the peaceful atmosphere, reflecting on the wildlife encounters and cultural experiences from your safari.
