The Kutu Gorilla Family is a unique and evolving group in the Rushaga sector of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. Initially habituated around 2015, the Kutu family was opened to tourism after a successful habituation process, giving visitors the chance to track and observe their behaviors in the dense Bwindi rainforest.
History and Formation
The group formed when Silverback Kutu led a split from another larger group in the Rushaga region. Under his leadership, the family grew steadily, consisting of multiple adult females, juveniles, and infants. Kutu was known for his strong leadership and calm temperament, which helped in maintaining peace within the family during its formative years.

Tragic Loss of Silverback Kutu

Gorilla trekking permits for this group are issued through the Uganda Wildlife Authority, and experienced rangers guide trekkers to their location while sharing updates on the family’s evolving story.
